What this tells you that PageSpeed Insights does not

PageSpeed Insights hands you raw Lighthouse output. This turns it into what is slow, what it costs you, and what to change first.

Optimize Your Images

Images are 40-45% of page weight on most stores.

Lab test only

Your page beats the typical store in our slow-phone lab test.

The main content took 4.8 s in a test that copies a slow phone on a weak connection. Shoppers on faster phones and networks usually see it sooner.

What real shoppers get, and what the lab test says

A plain verdict from real Chrome visits when Google has them, and from the lab test when it doesn't.

How to Fix

  1. 1.Convert images to WebP. Squoosh for a few, TinyPNG for a batch.
  2. 2.Install ShortPixel or Imagify. Converts your media library.
  3. 3.Defer what can wait. Chat and review widgets do not need to load first.

Where your score actually sits

A score means little on its own, so the report puts yours beside the medians from our benchmark of 1,533 Shopify stores across nine industries. Read the full benchmark.

Why a second costs you money

Speed is not a technical score. It decides whether someone waits for your products or leaves for a competitor.

How to test your store speed

Four steps, real Lighthouse data, and no account.

  1. 1

    Run the speed test

Paste any store URL. The test runs on mobile and desktop through Google PageSpeed Insights and comes back in under a minute. No account needed.
  2. 2

    Read your speed score

Get a lab score from 0 to 100 for each device. The mobile test copies a slow phone on a weak connection, so it shows how your page holds up for shoppers on slower phones.
  3. 3

    Check your Core Web Vitals

LCP, and INP are what Google measures on real visits. FCP, TBT and TTFB come from the lab run, with real Chrome data where your store has the traffic.
  4. 4

    Follow the fix steps

Issues come back grouped and ranked by priority, then by the load time each one costs you. Shopify and WordPress stores get tailored steps, everyone else gets the generic version.

Store speed, answered plainly

What the scores mean, which metrics move sales, and what to fix before anything else.

What is a good speed score for an ecommerce store?

Google bands the score at 90 and above for good, 50 to 89 for needs work, and below 50 for poor. Those bands were set for websites in general, and ecommerce pages carry more weight than most, so aim for 70 on mobile rather than 90. For context, in our benchmark of 1,533 Shopify stores the median mobile score was 47, with industry medians running from 40 to 55, so 60 already clears the median of every industry we measured.

What are Core Web Vitals?

Three numbers Google measures on real Chrome visits: LCP, how long the main content takes to appear; INP, how quickly the page responds to a tap or click; and , how much the layout moves around. Google uses them as one of many signals in search ranking. A page passes when each of the three is good for at least 3 in 4 visits.

Why is my mobile score lower than desktop?

That is mostly the test rather than your store: mobile runs on a throttled 4G connection with the CPU slowed down, desktop runs unthrottled. In our benchmark the median store scored 47 on mobile and 65 on desktop. The mobile lab test is also much harsher than real visits: only 1% of stores passed the 2.5-second LCP mark in it, against 91% on real mobile visits across the whole store. On desktop the gap was smaller, 68% in the lab against 94% for real visitors. Compare your mobile score to other mobile scores.

What slows down ecommerce stores the most?

, ahead of anything in your own theme. Across 1,533 Shopify stores, those loading 5 or fewer detected third-party services had a median mobile score of 74, while the most common band, 21 to 30 services, sat at 44. Oversized hero images come next. The third-party breakdown shows what individual services cost.

Does this work for WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Ecwid?

The test itself runs on any store, whatever it is built on, because it measures the page your visitors load. The fix steps are written for two platforms: Shopify, and WordPress, which covers WooCommerce. On BigCommerce, Ecwid or a custom build you get the same findings with generic steps. For a Shopify store, the Shopify speed test adds theme and app checks.

What is a good speed score for a WooCommerce store?

Read it against the same bands as any other store: above 70 on mobile is a good target. WooCommerce runs on WordPress, so the two things that usually hold the score down are your host and the plugins loading on every page. Caching and image conversion are the fixes that move it most, and the report names which ones apply to your store.

How does site speed affect conversions?

Load time decides whether shoppers stay. Portent's research found that ecommerce sites loading in 1 second convert at roughly 2.5x the rate of sites loading in 5 seconds, and a Deloitte and Google study measured an 8.4% lift in retail conversions from a 0.1-second improvement in mobile load time. Speed also feeds ranking, so a slow store loses traffic before it loses the sale.
