Enhanced Ecommerce refers to advanced analytics tracking that captures detailed shopping behavior data. Originally a separate feature in Universal Analytics, this functionality is now the standard ecommerce tracking approach built into GA4.

What Enhanced Ecommerce Tracks

The tracking covers the complete . Product impressions record when items appear in lists or search results. Product clicks capture which items users select for details. Add to cart and remove from cart events track basket changes.

Checkout tracking follows users through each step: initiating checkout, adding shipping information, entering payment details, and completing purchase. Refund events close the loop for returned orders.

Promotion tracking measures internal banner and offer performance, showing impressions and clicks for promotional content.

GA4 Implementation

GA4 does not distinguish between standard and enhanced ecommerce. All ecommerce functionality uses the same event structure. Events like view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, and purchase follow Google's recommended naming conventions.

The data model added events missing from Universal Analytics, including add_to_wishlist and view_cart. changed from numbered stages to specific events for shipping and payment information.
